Home Base Alpha Foundation
Home Base Alpha Foundation (HBA) is A NON-PROFIT CHARITABLE CORPORATION in affiliation with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. – Omicron Theta Lambda Chapter (OTL).
Purpose
The sole purpose of this document is to provide the members of Omicron Theta Lambda (OTL) Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and the Board of Directors of Home Base Alpha (HBA) Foundation (a separate on-profit entity) with a detailed description of the affiliation/business relationship between the non-profit entity and the chapter.
Background
Omicron Theta Lambda is an alumni chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The chapter was founded in 1985 and was known as the Hayward alumni chapter. Many of its founding members graduated from Cal State East Bay (previously Cal State Hayward). The OTL member base resides in the east bay stretching from Hayward to Richmond, CA. The chapter holds regular monthly meetings in central Oakland, CA. This chapter operates under the Constitution and bylaws of the General Organization of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Omicron Theta Lambda carries out the fraternity national programs and community service projects for the east bay communities. The fraternity conducts these programs in conjunction with the non-profit entity, HBA which can receive tax deductible donations.
In 1998, the chapter members formed the non-profit (HBA) and the entity received tax exempt status in 2006 under EIN 31-1526622 and California Corporation Number – C1812527.

Home Base Alpha Foundation objectives
This corporation is a non-profit PUBLIC BENEFIT CORPORATION and is not organized for private gain. It is organized under the Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation Law for public and charitable purposes. The mission of this corporation are to:
- Cultivate and encourage achievement of high scholastic standards.
- The entity awarded five $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school students entering an institution of higher learning this fall.
- Support school age children by implementing the fraternity national programs, Go-to-High School Go-to-College, Project Alpha and a Voteless People are a Hopeless People.
- Support school age children through mentoring and tutoring to help students boost performance in language arts, mathematics, history, cultural development and science.
- Promote mental health awareness by sponsoring workshops and case studies that teach young boys problem-solving skills to overcome difficulties in their personal life.

Omicron Theta Lambda (OTL) Chapter operates in a collaborative mode and provides mentors and volunteers for the foundation events:
The objectives described above will promote youth development in the following areas:
- Annual Scholarship Wine and Cheese Fundraiser
- Annual March for Babies – Step Up! – March of Dimes
- Annual Talent Show Competition
- Community Service: Sponsor and volunteer to work with two Oakland Boy Scout Troops

- Educational achievement
- Financial and economic awareness

- Leadership
- Life skills necessary to be productive and contributing members in society.
